ROTHERHAM GATEWAY
Please pledge your support below to help us deliver Rotherham Gateway, a scheme that will transform our borough and region.
Rotherham Gateway is more than a station: it will be a catalyst for growth and urban renewal
The borough has a rich industrial heritage and bold plans for regeneration, advanced manufacturing and housing. However, limited rail connectivity is holding back economic growth. Restoring mainline train services to Rotherham for the first time since the 1980s is not just a long-overdue improvement – it is something the borough is entitled to.
Better transport links in Rotherham are vital to connecting people, industry and business locally, regionally and nationally.
Together, we can deliver Rotherham’s Gateway to the future. Your support is vital to turn vision into reality.

Rotherham Gateway will be delivered in phases, starting with the Station Quarter:

HOW WILL THE STATION QUARTER BE FUNDED?
Rotherham Gateway will secure significant investment for our town. As well as investing our own capital, we are working with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), central Government and private sector partners to secure funding.
The development of the first phase of Rotherham Gateway, the Station Quarter, is being funded locally through SYMCA, which has committed £11.35 million from the devolved City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) to support this stage of the project. The Department for Transport (DfT) formally approved the release of this funding in January 2026. RMBC is now progressing work on the Full Business Case, which will form the basis for a final investment decision ahead of construction.
With advanced detailed planning work already underway and subject to approvals, we are working towards an opening date of around 2030 for the new railway station and tram-train stop.
